I’m bleeding. I am on my period. This happens for me every month and it really affects me and a lot of other people I love. If any other parts of our bodies were bleeding, people who were around us would give us a break and probably attend to the wound. Now it is true that my period is not a wound and it isn’t like a surprise injury, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t significant. Some of us get nauseous, weak, dizzy, emotional, just slower paced and the whole while we have to jump through hoops not to talk about the fact that it is happening. And heaven forbid that we leak on anything except for the fact that billions of us get our periods and we struggle in silence about it. We don’t understand our flows, don’t know what to eat, how to take of ourselves and we get very good at hiding it, dressing it up, taking pain killers and smiling about it when all we really need to do is take a few days off and breathe. Everyone should do what is good for them, and I am personally not calling it surfing the crimson, aunt flow - I’m bleeding, I’m tired and I need a back rub. My womb is not a secret.
